THE INDUSTRY IS OPEN TO ALTERNATIVE INTERVENTION OPTIONS

The SPE/ICoTA Coiled Tubing and Well Intervention (CTWI) Conference was held on March, 23–24, in the Woodlands, USA. Now in its 12th year, this event has grown to become one of the largest indoor exhibitions of coiled tubing and well intervention products and services. In their welcoming address, the cochairpersons of the program committee, Curtis Blount, ConocoPhillips, and Brian Schwanitz, Welltec, noted: “Based on the years in the industry, we feel that the current oil and gas economiñ environment offers an upside to well-intervention professionals. Our experiences suggest that some of the lowest cost-per-barrel-equivalent can be achieved through proper application of well intervention tools and techniques. And in a tight money environment, many upper level managers may be more open to using alternative intervention options – ones they may have previously ignored in a robust market –  to increase production at costs that can be significantly lower than “exploring with a bit on a rotary rig.”
