“Visha-Thermogas” is the name of the innovation project of Belorusneft on thermal gas formation treatment.
This method of oil recovery enhancement is considered to be as one of the most perspective. It relates to one of the most viable methods for development and commercialization at the Belarusian oilfields in the nearest future. The goal is to increase the efficiency of residual hard-to-recover oil reserves production.
For the first time the opportunity to create a form of thermal gas treatment technology (for carbonate rocks of the Pripyat downfold) was documented on October 6, 2011, when Belorusneft, JSC and Russian Zarubezhneft, JSC concluded a strategic partnership agreement. The structures of Zarubezhneft, including VNIIneft, JSC and famous Russian interbranch scientific and technical complex Nefteotdacha also joined the project. Initially, Belarusian and Russian specialists were going not to just create a sort of new technology and test it in Belarus, but also to transfer positive experience to other oil regions around the globe. The plans also include laying down and promotion of joint intellectual property for this and similar developments, rendering of engineering and consulting services, conduction of research, design and analytical works.
A special focus of the parties on the project “Visha-Thermogas” is emphasized by weekly inspections of the wellsite where the forthcoming tests will be performed by the specialists of Belorusneft, as well as the continuous work of Zarubezhneft's representatives in the republic.
Currently, the issues of training the operators to work at the wellsite are being resolved, technical regulations on the conduction of geological and engineering operations at air injection wells are being specified. Development of the wellsite at the Vishanskoe oilfield is being carried out. It is planned to deliver a compressor station to the wellsite in the nearest future. The specialists of Zarubezhneft will participate in its acceptance, mounting and operation along with Belorusneft's experts. Later on, Vishanskaya well (No. 134) will be hooked up and the proper equipment required for thermal gas EOR method testing will be mounted.
Thermal gas treatment technique is one of the most promising enhacned oil recovery technologies. Unlike the cold waterflooding operations, thermal gas treatments eliminate formation cooling-off risks and significantly reduced wax precipitation probability. Moreover, low-permeability reservoirs are actively involved into development.
