New Messoyakhaneftegaz digital centre set to increase efficiency in Arctic oil production

Gazprom Neft—Rosneft joint venture Messoyakhaneftegaz has opened an integrated field development centre in Tyumen. Remote-control operations-management technologies are expected to increase scope for greater efficiency in developing hard-to-recover reserves at the Messoyakha group of fields.

The Digital Centre will coordinate all stages of the production cycle at the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field — Russia’s northernmost onshore field, located on the Gydan Peninsula. Company specialists have developed a cutting-edge complex, capable of generating highly accurate predictions and development scenarios for this Arctic asset, in line with technological parameters, infrastructure capacity and the unique geological features of Messoyakha strata.

Computer models of wells, pipelines, and oil and gas treatment facilities together form a complete “digital twin” of this Arctic oilfield, located almost 2,000 kilometres from its virtual duplicate. Digital twins of the Messoyakha field’s 550 production- and injection-well stock, computer models of its 500-kilometre pipeline system, and simulations of hydrocarbon inflows are synchronised with real-world production processes, and can replicate the entire production cycle — from strata to oil inflow — with 97% accuracy.

Using mathematical modelling and machine learning algorithms, specialists coordinate the entire operational cycle at this standalone field, increasing viability in construction, drilling, production, and processing hydrocarbons in this remote standalone Arctic region.

The integrated Messoyakhaneftegaz centre is the result of the comprehensive and integrated digital transformation of Gazprom Neft’s Upstream Directorate — the company’s major changes here involving the reworking of key business processes and the creation of “digital clusters” of “smart fields”, heavily reliant on Industry 4.0 technologies and flexible, multidisciplinary teams.
