The gas company is granted the license to the Kheysovsky structure, an 83,500 square km area in the Barents Sea.

In a Russian government decree, gas monopoly company Gazprom is awarded the license to the Kheysovsky without tender. The company is paying 1,07 billion roubles for the license, a press release from the government reads. The Kheysovsky is estimated to hold more than two trillion cubic meters of gas, 394 million tons of oil equivalents and 32 million tons of condensate.

In the same government decree, Rosneft is awarded the license to the Pritaymyrsky field, a 26,600 square km area in the Laptev Sea.

The Kheysovsky has long been on the list of Gazprom’s desired fields. The company now holds a total of 36 licenses in Arctic waters, among them 10 in the Barents and Pechora Seas. In addition, Gazprom is bidding for another two Barents Sea licenses, to the Aleksandrovskoye and Severo-Zapadny areas. 

The license portfolio of Gazprom in the Barents Sea now includes the Shtokman and West Shtokman fields, the Ledovy, Ludpovsky, Demidovsky, Fersmanovsky, Medvezhii, Prirazlomnoye, Dolginskoye and Kheysovsky fields.

As previously reported, Gazprom Neft, a subsidiary of Gazprom, started production at the Prirazlomnoye field in the Pechora Sea in late December 2013. Exploration drilling at the Dolginskoye structure has been conducted by the company this summer.

Despite the many licenses in the Barents Sea, Gazprom is first of all interested in fields on the Russian Pacific coast and the Asian markets.
