LUKOIL has begun the construction of a high-tech innovative experimental Center for Core and Reservoir Fluids Research in the city of Perm.

The Center will focus on creating innovative technologies and technologies of oil recovery enhancement based on multifaceted and specific core research. There are plans to apply the results of the research at the LUKOIL oil production enterprises in Volga-Ural and Timan-Pechora provinces, as well as abroad.

Project realization includes construction of an administration and laboratory building measuring almost 4 thousand m2 and a core repository with an area of around 3 thousand m2 with enough space to store more than 170 thousand linear metres of core samples. The project will also allow creating more than 70 new jobs. The launch of the Center is set for 2023.

Opening of the Center will be the next step towards creating a world-level scientific and laboratory cluster that would have no counterparts in Russia. The labs are designed with the most up-to-date approaches in mind, including video monitoring of work processes with focus on key indicators, information systems of research planning, artificial neural networks to analyze and process research results et al.

The Center will share territory with Perm National Research Polytechnic University and the Research and Education Center for Sustainable Management of Resources.

This will allow conducting joint research, offering courses on core research to the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the university, convening academic workshops, and training high-qualified personnel for the fuel and energy industry of the Perm region and all Russia.

"Construction of the Center for Core and Reservoir Fluids Research is important for our region, as it is closely related to the development of the Research and Education Center. This core research institution will become a growth point for science and oilfield services," – said Dmitry Makhonin, Acting Governor of the Perm region.
