Messoyakhaneftegaz has commissioned a horizontal well at the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field, facilitating the full-scale development of Achimovsky deposits. The well, which runs to a total length of 3,200 metres, delivered a natural oil-inflow with initial volumes of 435 tonnes per day — roughly eight times the average at Messoyakha.

The results obtained confirm the correctness of project participants’ calculations regarding the promising outlook for developing the Achimov deposits, reserves at which Messoyakha geologists estimate at 35 million tonnes of oil and 111 million tonnes in total reserves.

The Achimovsky deposits are characterised by a complex geological structure, the viable development of which demands using cutting-edge technologies. The deposits are marked by abnormal reservoir pressure, and saturated oil with a high gas content, yellow and orange in colour due to the high light-hydrocarbon content. Messoyakhaneftegaz has high expectations for deposits of this kind: active development will include drilling two exploratory wells, together with ongoing electro- and seismic prospecting of Achimovsky strata.

“The drilling of the high-output Achimovsky well was preceded by the collection and analysis of a large volume of geological information, as well as pilot works and exploratory drilling. Bringing the major resource potential of the deep horizons of the onshore Arctic — the Achimovsky deposits — into production marks a new stage in developing the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field”, — commented Victor Sorokin CEO, Messoyakhaneftegaz.
