Mexico will hold the first auction of shale hydrocarbons in September

Trades on non-traditional hydrocarbons will be held by Mexico for the first time in history September 5. Mexico Ministry of Energy reported.

Nine regions in the Burgos basin, the north of the country, is planned for sale. These are the part of a geological formation that includes a huge shale area in the US Eagle Ford in the state of Tamaulipas.

The total area is 2.7 thousand square km, RIA Novosti reported.

Investments in the projects may amount to $ 2.3 billion, and their prospective resources amount to 1.16 billion barrels of oil equivalent - three times more than resources of 46 previously distributed blocks.

As Pedro Joaquin Caldwell mentioned, the Minister of Energy of the country, 53% of the reserves of Mexican oil falls precisely on non-traditional deposits, and Mexico occupies the sixth place in the world in reserves of this type of hydrocarbons.
