Rosgeo completed the first stage of complex regional geophysical exploration of the juncture of the Taimyr-Severozemelsk fold system with the Laptev marginal continental plate, and also within the adjacent transitional area of the Arctic Ocean (North-Western part of the Laptev Sea). The works are performed from the federal budget resources under the state contract concluded this year between the parent company and the Department for subsoil use in the North-West Federal District, on the continental shelf and in the Global Ocean (Rosnedra subdivision).

During the field season of 2018, OAO Sevmorneftegeofizika (city of Murmansk, the company is a part of Rosgeo), using the "Academician Lazarev" research vessel, conducted 2D seismic surveying of 4,000 linear km with CDP seismic reflection method. Saint-Petersburg Marine Geological Prospecting Subdivision (city of Saint-Petersburg, AO Rosgeo’s autonomous subdivision) performed an associated gravity survey and magnetic exploration in the same volume. The study area made up more than 40 thousand square kilometers. The maximum depth of exploration was no less than 8 km, the target depth interval was 2-7 km.

The area is characterized by difficult ice conditions. The "Dixon" icebreaker was used in the work to ensure safety. Due to the enhanced professionalism of the field party of the "Academician Lazarev" vessel, the works were completed earlier than the established deadline. During the project implementation, all the relevant instructions for the environmental and marine mammals’ protection were strictly followed. As a result, high-quality geophysical data were obtained, which will be further processed and interpreted.

At the following stages of the works, the specialists will study the regional peculiarities of the geological structure of the area, discover the objects promising for oil and gas and determine the pattern of their placement.

As a result, the localized hydrocarbon resources will be assessed and recommendations for the following stages of exploration for the purpose to reproduce the resource base of hydrocarbon raw materials will be provided.

It is planned to complete the works on the project by the end of 2020.
