JSC SPC Nedra (Yaroslavl, the company is part of the ROSGEO state holding) has completed drilling the North-Novoborskaya No. 1 parametrical well. The design depth was 2,300 m, but to reach the target Riphean horizon it was increased to 2,500 m.

The work was carried out under the state contract concluded in August 2016. The customer was the Department of Subsoil Resources Management of the North-Western Federal District (Sevzapnedra).

The well is located in the territory of the Nenets Autonomous District.

The project objective is to clarify the geological structure and obtain parametric description of the sedimentary section in the northern part of Izhma-Pechora Depression to assess the prospects for its oil and gas potential and justify new areas of geological exploration for hydrocarbon raw materials.

The well drilling started in June 2017, it is completed by now, the test in the production casing is also completed. Package of geotechnical and geophysical surveys was conducted in parallel, 511.5 m of core was sampled (total returns was 463 m - 89%). Five targets were tested in the open well and four in the production casing. All intervals are characterized as permeable, water-saturated. After completion of well, vertical seismic profiling was performed.

The analysis of the data acquired made it possible to determine all the main characteristics specified by the technical assignment. As a result, reservoirs and impermeable layers were identified, geochemical parameters necessary for assessing the prospects for oil and gas bearing potential in the northern part of the Izhma-Pechora Depression were obtained, and also hydrodynamic characteristics and information on the saturation degree of the test objects were determined.

Isolation and abandonment works in accordance with design decisions, actual mining and geological conditions and well design started in April 2018. Based on the results of drilling and surveying the well, a final geological report will be prepared, which is planned to be submitted to the customer by the end of this year.

Work is carried out ahead of the schedule.
