JSC SPC Nedra (Yaroslavl, the enterprise is part of the ROSGEO state holding) has completed the rig-up operations of the BU-5000/320 BMCh at the Bazhenovskaya 1 parametric well and proceeded with drilling. The depth of 900 m has been reached, the well logging has been completed, the preparation for the running in hole and cementing of the 324 mm casing is in progress.

The project is implemented under a state contract signed by the holding and the Mineral Resources Department for the Ural Federal District last year.

The depth of the well will be 3,200 m; it must enter pre-Jurassic formation to a depth of 50-70 m. The site is located within the West Siberian oil and gas province (the Tyumen Region, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District - Yugra).

The project objective is to study the geological structure and evaluate the oil and gas bearing prospects of the Mesozoic sedimentary cover (including the Bazhenov-Abalak deposits) and the contact zone with the pre-Jurassic series in the south-western part of the Lyaminsky petroleum province, and also to develop methods for studying potentially productive horizons within the Bazhenovsky area. The lithological composition of the rocks, their reservoir properties will be studied, the well logging and core sampling procedures will be practiced, the technique for testing the deposits of the Bazhenov and Abalak suites will be improved.

Vertical seismic profiling, an extended well logging package including full-wave acoustic, litho-density, nuclear magnetic resonance, mud, carbon-oxygen and spectrometric well surveys are planned to be carried out in the well.

When sampling the core of the sediments of the Bazhenov and Abalak formations, a technique will be applied that does not allow its destruction (isolation). Tests in the production column will be carried out using special methods of well stimulation.

For the sampled core material, sludge and formation fluids, complex laboratory studies will be performed, including 80 different methods.

To date, a winter road has been built and equipped, road-building machinery and equipment have been mobilized, a processing area and a helicopter pad have been constructed and a drill site and an area for special-purpose machines have been arranged, and a fuel and lubricant depot prepared. Besides that, sludge and burning pits have been excavated, floor boards for storing pipes, cement, chemicals and reception of drilling equipment have been laid, the fuel and lubricants depot has been installed and tied up, the preparatory and construction works have been completed, the service water supply has been arranged, a partial installation of a residential camp has been carried out.

The drilling rig BU-5000/320 BMCh (Uralmash 5000/320 BMCh, the nominal depth of drilling - 5,000 meters) is used for the well construction. JSC ROSGEO purchased the rig from Uralmash NGO Holding LLC as part of the programme of modernization and renovation of the production machinery fleet.

The use of the rig will shorten the time of well drilling by using the optimal regimes provided by the controlled drive of the main mechanisms and the application of the bit feed controller. Works on the site are scheduled to be completed by December 20, 2019.
