Salym Petroleum Development N.V. (SPD) drilled its 1000th well on the Salym group of fields since the execution of the Salym Project began in 2003. The anniversary well, 2880 meters deep, was drilled in West Salym by SSK, one of SPD’s drilling contractors.
“This is a remarkable milestone in SPD’s history and worth celebration for all SPD and contractor staff working on the project. It is the result of working hard for the last 11 years, learning from experiences gained and continuously improve to be cost effective and become a consistent top quartile performer, securing future stable growth for the company. Since the very first well drilled now 11 years ago, we have been able in continuous reducing the well construction average drilling time from 30 days up to 8.5 days, with the record well being drilled in just 4.5 days. We now are moving forward to new horizons, drilling more complicated wells and applying latest technologies. And there is still room for further improvement. Essential is that we do this work safe without harming people or the environment and we deliver the wells to the highest industry standards”, told Robert Tinkhof, SPD Well Engineering Manager.
SPD spudded its first development well in 2004 in the West Salym field. The total length of wells constructed during this period has exceeded 3 million meters.
