Salym Petroleum Development (SPD) achieved an outstanding milestone of 3 million meters drilled at Salym group of oil fields. SPD total well stock exceeds 950 wells.

“Delivering 3 000 000 meters for 12 years of the Salym project is a result of a close collaboration and a dedicated teamwork of SPD and our drilling contractors”, told Rob Tinkhof, SPD Well Engineering Manager. “We are permanently working to improve the efficiency of our drilling performance, increasing the drilling rate and the quality of wells. Altogether, the top priority in well construction is compliance with HSSE standards, especially as the wells become more complex in nature and with downhole pressures increasing. There are many more meters to be drilled and it is our task to do this safely”.

Currently SPD is actively implementing new advanced drilling technologies that ensure to construct wells in a more efficient and safe manner and also increase production potential. In particular, the company uses a hollow whipstock, dissolvable drop ball system, and i-coil fiber optic coil tubing.

SPD started its drilling program at Salym group of oil fields in 2003. Since then SPD has set several industry records in drilling and completion. SPD drills average well in 9 days with a record time of 4.5 days. Record completion time in Salym group of oil fields is 3.6 days.

Salym Petroleum Development N.V. (SPD) is a Joint Venture set up in 1996 with a view to develop the Salym group of oilfields in Western Siberia. SPD shareholders on a 50:50 basis are Shell Salym Development B.V. and Gazprom Neft.
