SPD set a new record drilling a 4288-meter long production well. It is the longest production well ever drilled in Salym group of oil fields. A drilling milestone was delivered on pad 56 in Vadelyp field by the drilling rig 7 of Siberian Service Company (SSK), SPD drilling contractor.

“This is another important achievement in the history of the company proving that SPD is successfully realizing its drilling program. Based on genuine teamwork within SPD and efficient long-term cooperation with our contractors, a combination of the performance and technology and Russian experience with primary focus on HSSE we are safely delivering top-quality wells of constantly increasing complexity. Such drilling achievements enable SPD to sustain production volumes and contribute into overall successful development of the Salym group of fields”, – said Robert Tinkhof, SPD Well Engineering Manager.

The well was spudded on December 18, 2014 and reached the record depth of 4288 meters on January 4, 2015, including a 500-meter horizontal section at 87 degree angle enabling to double the reservoir penetration. The end point of the well is about 3000 m away from the wellhead and majority of the hole was drilled at 60 degree inclination. A rotary steerable system (RSS) was used in the latter part of the hole in order to facilitate subsequent completion operations as well as avoiding difficulties with down hole motors while drilling. Logging while drilling tools in the string has eliminated need for subsequent TLC logging. Now SPD plans to complete the well with 2 stages fracking.

Since 2003 SPD drilled 945 wells of total 2881 km length. Currently the wells are drilled by two SPD drilling contractors, KCA Deutag and SSK. The record 2367-meter well was delivered in 4.54 days on July 2008.
