Belorusneft starts efficiency assessment of water-gas formation stimulation methods

21.05.2014

BelNIPIneft starts efficiency assessment of one of the technologies.

This refers to the method of water-gas stimulation of formation with the use of nitrogen. The programme includes experiments at production fields, and laboratory researches on a bleeding core. According to the results, the specialists will determine specific sites for pilot tests. The deposits of Davydovskoe and Rechitskoe fields have been chosen for the analysis. The specialists think that these are the locations where results may be attained i.e. additional oil production.

Such surveys have been under way in Belorusneft during the last three years. During this time the assessment of water-gas stimulation with the application of three agents was conducted: stripped gas, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. Gas and water-gas technologies are considered to be complex and expensive; they require accurate calculation, thorough approach to implantation with the due account for the complex geology of the Pripyat downfold. Meanwhile, such methods are deemed perspective for the intensification of the recovery of challenged and highly watered reserves. And they are the basis of the resource potential of the country.

After the researches and analysis of the perspectives of water-gas technologies, nitrogen was chosen among all the agents. Its advantages over carbon dioxide and stripped gas are low cost, technological simplicity of implementation, and safety.
