Gazprom neft is the first company in Russia to implement innovative UniQ seismic acquisition system
20.12.2012
Gazprom neft is the first company in Russia to implement UniQ technology. The latter will be used to perform exploration surveys at Vakunayskoe field of Chonskiy project, recent initiative of the Company in Eastern Siberia.
Developed by Schlumberger, the UniQ technology is one-of-a-kind point-receiver system that combines unique geophysical equipment and special software. The UniQ system delivers the whole range of exploration surveys, from fast-moving, low-density surveys to wide-azimuth, broad bandwidth reservoir surveys.
The UniQ technology has been used in numerous international projects. The results of its application demonstrate high efficiency of the system as regards exploration of new reserves at geologically complex greenfields and development of brownfields, appraisal of which with utilization of standard techniques is ineffective.
Seismic data provided by the UniQ system guarantees the most realistic reservoir characterization, substantial increase of exploration drilling efficiency, as well as the reduction of operational risks and expenses.
Gazprom neft has signed a contract with GEOTECH Holding, under which the latter will perform exploration surveys over a period of three operational seasons (winter seasons of 2012-2015). As a strategic partner, Schlumberger will provide Gazprom neft with technical and engineering support. During the first operational season, experts from Schlumberger company will accompany every survey operation.
Launched by Gazprom neft, Chonskiy project covers Vakunayskoe, Tympuchikanskoe and Ignyalinskoe fields. At the end of 2011 specialists of Gazprom neft performed a set of exploration surveys and reinterpreted the available geological information. As a result, proved reserves of these fields increased fivefold, to more than 125 mln. tons (893 mln. barrels) of oil and 225 bcm (4,327 bcf) of natural gas.
