Gazpromneft-Angara, a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft, has obtained a consistent inflow of oil from the Ignyalinskoye field (Irkutsk Region) benefiting from a new approach to the seismic studies. Following the multi-stage hydraulic fracturing, the flow rate of the first horizontal well drilled in this area exceeded 120 tpd, enhancing the commercial prospects of the project.
Located within the licence block of the same name in the Katangsky District of the Irkutsk Region, the Ignyalinskoye oil and gas condensate field forms part of the Chonsky project. Development of the Company’s East Siberian assets is hampered by their complex geological structure and the extensive geography of hydrocarbon formations. The high quality of seismic data processing and interpretation is one of several factors that could help reduce uncertainty about the project.
In its search for new tools to improve production efficiency, Gazprom Neft teamed up with a technology partner, Schlumberger to build a new seismic model of the asset which would clearly show the geological structure of formations and identify the richest oil-bearing zones. The tests run on two pilot wells drilled within the Ignyalinsky licence block proved the model’s relevance.
“Development of the new seismic and geological model for the Ignyalinsky licence block came as yet another confirmation of the fact that innovation is the right tool to tap into hard-to-recover oil reserves. Successful cooperation with partners such as Schlumberger, which have unique experience and competencies in complex mineral deposits, will help us progress at a much faster pace, reduce our costs, and finally create a highly efficient model for developing our assets in Eastern Siberia.”
