Gazprom Neft has completed testing of its proprietary “GeoMate” IT system, allowing the collation and analysis of geological information across all producing assets owned by the company. Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz, Gazpromneft-Murvalenko, Gazpromneft-Khantos, Gazpromneft-Vostok, and Gazpromneft-Orenburg are all now connected to the system, on a single, integrated platform. The software and engineering behind the new system were developed by experts at the Gazpromneft Joint Scientific and Research Centre, together with the company’s IT specialists.

A key feature of the software supporting the GeoMate programme is its facility allowing the application of innovative approaches to the analysis of geological and field data. Mathematical tools built in to the information platform allow the impact of more than 200 geological features to be evaluated. The GeoMate system brings together approximately 80 percent of all data available from the analysis of geological and geophysical information — seismic data, maps, the results of well surveys, well-core data, and so on. Access to a single, fully comprehensive IT environment allows Gazprom Neft employees direct and immediate access to all data, allowing the construction of field models and the identification and detailing of promising zones and formations. Detailed and thoroughgoing analysis helps geologists, geophysicists, petro-physicists and other specialists to develop integrated solutions on field prospecting and development, drawing on a wide range of data. The development of a proprietary software solution has also obviated any reliance on imported products.

Work on the GeoMate system was initiated in 2013 as part of a project for the “Express evaluation of geological formations and verification of data”, based on geological and geophysical information collated by the Gazpromneft Joint Scientific and Research Centre.

The Gazpromneft Joint Scientific and Research Centre LLC (a subsidiary of JSC Gazprom Neft) provides analytical, methodological and scientific and research facilities supporting all aspects of exploration and development, with a particular focus on the development of new technologies, engineering and project expertise in this field. A total 800 staff (including two professors, six PhDs and more than 40 PhD students) work across the Centre’s main facilities in Moscow and Tyumen. Over the past three years staff at the Centre have originated more than 30 intellectual property assets, including nine original inventions, computer programmes including, in particular, database management programmes detailing hydrocarbons in place and data governing the viable exploitation of oil and gas deposits, as well as geological and geophysical databases.
