LUKOIL has applied innovative technologies for examination of core samples of the West Qurna-2 field.

The company performed capillarimetric survey in oil-water reservoir conditions paired with mercury porosimetry for the first time.

LUKOIL will use the results of the experiment to elaborate on reservoir porosity and permeability, develop a more accurate reservoir model of the Mishrif formation, and thus secure better efficiency of its development. According to the plan, the scope of surveys of the Iraqi field will be completed in Quarter 3 of 2017.

he West Qurna-2 field is located in the south of Iraq, 65 km to the north-west of the large seaport city of Basra. It is one the world’s biggest oil fields, holding around 13 billion barrels of recoverable reserves.

LUKOIL is one of the major international oil and gas companies that accounts for more than 2% of the world's oil production and around 1% of the proven hydrocarbon reserves. While having the full production cycle, the Company exercises full control over the whole production chain — from oil and gas production to petroleum product sales. The Russian Federation accounts for 88% of hydrocarbon reserves and 83% of hydrocarbon production, with the main activities concentrated in four (4) federal districts, including the Northwestern, Volga, Urals and Southern Federal Districts.
