NCS Energy Services has announced that the company’s Multistage Unlimited coiled-tubing frac system was used to complete a world-record 93-stage well in the Bakken formation, North Dakota. The 93 cemented casing sleeves were located and shifted using the company’s proprietary coiled-tubing-deployed frac-isolation assembly, and the fracs were pumped down the coiled tubing/casing annulus.

The average time between stages averaged less than nine minutes. Lateral length covered by the sleeves totalled 9,260 feet, and the lower-most sleeve was accessed by coiled tubing at a depth of 19,603 feet, also a record for NCS. A total of 4.1 million pounds of sand was precisely placed.

All 93 stages were accomplished in a single, continuous operation without tripping the frac-isolation assembly out of the hole, yet another NCS record, according to Joe DeGeare, NCS vice-president of sales and operations.

“Our goal is always to finish a stimulation with as few interruptions as possible. We recently had a continuous run of 80 sleeves in the Eagle Ford, and we routinely run more than 60 stages in other areas. But, this is our longest single run to date, and it testifies to the reliability and durability of our tools. This capability is important as more and more operators consider increasing the number of stages to improve production results in unconventional wells.”

Since its introduction in 2011, the NCS Multistage Unlimited system has gained acceptance in unconventional reservoirs across the U.S. and around the world, with more than 44,000 cemented casing sleeves installed and fracked through.

NCS Energy Services LLC is the world leader in coiled-tubing-deployed frac-isolation technology used in multistage completions. NCS is an independent technology and services company that has operated throughout North America, Latin America, Australia, and the Far East, with a history of more than 4,000 field successes.
