Techinformservice, Weatherford Drilling Services in Russia, reached a new milestone, having drilled an 849 m (2,785 ft) horizontal hole section at Novoportovskoye field (Yamal Peninsula) operated by Gazprom Neft Novy Port LLC. The section was drilled in 6 days (144 hours).

 

The operations were performed with the application of HyperLine™ downhole drilling motor and logging-while-drilling complex Triple Combo. The complex includes tools that allow to perform azimuth density logging, neutron-neutron logging, resistivity logging, gamma-ray logging and directional surveying.

 

Due to geosteering application the borehole was 96% drilled within the pay zone, which set a record in drilling of such long sections. Three times per day real-time information was received, logged, analyzed, interpreted, and preliminary petrophysical and geosteering conclusions were sent to the Geology Department of Gazprom Neft Novy Port. Geosteering of the well had also helped identify geological phenomena such as structural folds, which was also new and valuable information for the client. It enabled timely adjustment of the drilling trajectory.
