Preferred Sands Develops Clean Resin-Coated Product
21.02.2012
Preferred Sands, one of the largest silica sand and proppant producers in the U.S. and Canada, has announced the debut of the first environmentally sustainable resin-coated sand product to service the frac sand industry.
The company has an array of clean, high-strength sand types and grades at its Genoa, Nebraska, plant that can perform at various well conditions and depths.
“We don’t use phenolics during the finishing process for our resin-coated sands, which prevents leaching of any harmful chemicals or compounds,” said Preferred Sands CEO and founder Michael O’Neill. “Our resin-coated sands are the only clean alternative to traditional phenolic-based coated sands in the industry today.”
The environmental benefits of the Preferred Sands resin-coated products are fourfold. They do not leach any chemicals, do not create dust, have no VOCs and are manufactured at lower process temperatures, requiring less energy and reducing the transmissions found in traditional coating operations.
“As a company we are committed to being responsible stewards of the land with responsibility to family, the communities where we work and the natural world,” said O’Neill. “We are dedicated to developing environmentally and economically sustainable products for the responsible development of North America’s domestic energy market.”
In addition to its Genoa location, Preferred Sands operates plants in Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin and Canada. Preferred Sands is currently implementing clean resin technology at its Bloomer, Wisconsin, location and plans to expand the service to additional plants.
Preferred Sands is an owner-operated frac sand and proppant company launched in 2007 with its first silica sand mine in Genoa. Since that time, the company has been steadfastly committed to building a business with the best products, service, logistics management and employee culture in the industry.
