Baker Hughes has announced the commercial release of its ProductionWave™ flexible production solution for unconventional oil wells. Measured against traditional rod lift systems, the solution delivers improved economics, a smaller environmental footprint, and fewer HSE risks.
The ProductionWave solution, featuring Baker Hughes’ breakthrough FLEX™ pump electrical submersible pumping (ESP) technology, is primarily targeted at unconventional resource plays in which post-frac production rates decline rapidly and wellbore trajectories prove troublesome for rod lift systems. FLEX pumps can operate in flow ranges from 50 barrels of fluid per day (bfpd) to 4,000 bfpd, enabling operation in dynamic producing conditions while providing better associated gas handling capabilities than rod lift systems.
In addition to the FLEX pump, the ProductionWave solution includes technology for gas handling and sand control, production chemicals and services, and services related to applications engineering, real-time optimization, and field support. Baker Hughes offers the solution in a variety of commercial models geared to meet most economic requirements.
The ProductionWave solution affords the following additional benefits:
- Deeper placement in the well for greater drawdown, which increases production and ultimate reserve recovery
- Deviation tolerance, which increases system uptime, improves asset recovery, and eliminates the tubing wear typical of rod lift systems
- Improved reliability, which reduces operating costs and minimizes downtime for improved cash flow
- A smaller, less unsightly surface footprint with no emissions
- No above-ground rotating parts, which reduces HSE hazards
