Recognition for new deepwater technologies

The annual Hart Energy’s Special Meritorious Awards for Engineering Innovation showcases offshore technologies that have game-changing significance. The 2013 awards are divided into seven categories: Field Development, Drilling Operations, Geosciences, Production Operations, Completions, Systems Integration, and HSE.

Schlumberger was awarded the winner in five categories.

Completions

The KickStart rupture disk valve eliminates coiled tubing or tubing-conveyed perforating in the first stage of plug-and-perf operations, offering a more effective and efficient method to start the fracturing process. Although it can be used to complete any well that has cemented casing, it is specially designed for multistage stimulation of horizontal and highly deviated wells.

Drilling Operations

The RHADIANT drilling fluid system is formulated to maintain stability throughout the construction and evaluation of ultra-high temperature wells with bottomhole static temperatures (BHST) of greater than 500°F (260°C). The system will maintain stable rheological profiles with all the characteristics needed to deliver cost-effective drilling rates in thermally hostile downhole environments.

Field Development

The new REDA HotlineSA3 high-temperature (HT) ESP system – our third-generation Hotline system – has been reengineered for higher temperatures, longer run life, and increased reliability. Its field-proven design incorporates knowledge and experience gained from earlier Hotline systems.

Geosciences

IsoMetrix marine isometric seismic technology delivers high-fidelity isometric, point-receiver seismic data while overcoming spatial wavenumber bandwidth compromises that have limited all previous marine seismic acquisition methods. The result is a reliable, continuous measure of the full upgoing and downgoing notchless seismic wavefield sampled at a 6.25-m2 point-receiver surface grid – true 3D seismic data available for the first time.

Production Operations

The latest-generation innovation in HP high-shot-density gun systems, INsidr perforating shock and debris reduction technology minimizes fallout of shaped-charge debris in high-pressure wells, including in deep water. Minimizing debris ensures that the area open to flow after perforation is maximized for enhanced production. By reducing gun shock, INsidr technology protects tubing-conveyed perforating and completion equipment.
