Rimera Group's Alnas Plant has successfully completed field test of a high-performance electrical submersible pumping unit in Sovetskoye field. Time between failures is 825 days, i.e. almost 2 times the maximum TBF achieved by the previous models.
The ESP unit under test consisted of a corrosion and wear resistant series 2215 pump, size 5А, with capacity 500 cubic meters per day, designed for heavy-duty operation. The ESP unit ran during 825 days in normal operating mode, maintaining the rated technical and power specifications. No deviations have been noted during operation.
Alnas achieved reliability owing to new design solutions: optimized locations of intermediate radial bearings and matching outer bearings with outer parts for reduced vibration; new flow path geometry in pump stages with improved efficiency and TDH allowed the pump to consume less power with reduced length of the entire unit; involute shaft connections between pump stages resulted in 20% higher maximum allowable transfer power; moving the inter-stage coupling into the pump head allowed to increase cross-sectional area at the base, reduce flow resistance and, therefore, lower degree of wear.
– Average time between failures of the earlier Alnas models, ESP series 202 and 222, in wells of Sovetskoye field was 232 days. Our design engineers were successful in extending TBF for our new line of high-performance pumps many times. Clients will have to spend much less operating and servicing the new pumps, - says Alnas executive director Sergei Shunin.
