Rimera's Almetyevsk-based plant Alnas has successfully completed qualification testing of modular piston rod protectors to be delivered to Tatneft for pilot testing.

The Size 6 modular piston rod protector has a high heat resistant design with a reinforced support. It is designed to withstand elevated axial loads of up to 3,500 kg/f in wells complicated by elevated temperatures of up to 170°С. The modular configuration permits performing prompt interventions and maintenance on pump units.

Extraction of difficult reserves, for which Rimera's new piston rod protector has been designed, has received an added impetus with the enactment last year of Federal Law No. 213-FZ on incentives for development of difficult oil reserves and other changes in oil industry taxation. The piston rod protector will be used in horizontal wells with high-viscosity oil where steam is used to reduce oil viscosity. It is one of the key elements of the hanger system under such conditions.

“This year we plan to set up production of at least 17 units of new equipment. The modular piston rod protector is our seventh new product that has yet to pass pilot testing in wells of our customers. Already one month from now the new piston rod protector will be delivered to Tatneft oil fields where, I am sure, it will stand up to quality tests,” says Rimera Group R&D Center Director Sergei Sibiriov.
