NPTS Nedra, JSC (city of Yaroslavl, the company is a part of Rosgeo state Holding) started the drilling of the Chamben 1 stratigraphic well. The site is located in the Leno-Tunguska oil and gas province, on the Chamba elevation of the southern side of the Kureya syneclise.
The planned depth of the first stage is 3,800 m, the projected horizon is the Bulai suite of the lower Cambrian. The total planned depth is 5,500 m. It is expected that the well will completely uncover the Vend-Cambrian part of the section and penetrate the Riphean deposits at 50 m.
The working area is considered to be the most difficult in terms of the natural, climatic, economic, industrial and living conditions. The state of the area exploration by deep drilling is extremely low.
The works are performed to study the geological structure of the southern side of the Kureya syneclise in order to estimate the oil and gas potential of the Vend-Cambrian sediments and the upper layers of the Riphean as the grounds for planning further exploration.
During the exploration, a comprehensive lithological, stratigraphic, geophysical, petrophysical, geochemical characteristics of the Ordovician and Cambrian sediment section to a depth of 3, 800 m will be given.
Moreover, the reservoir quality of rocks, intervals of potential natural reservoirs and geochemical criteria of oil and gas potential of subsoil will be studied.
Based on the results of drilling, testing and exploration of the stratigraphic well, an extensive geological information, classified core and sludge will be received, and a sample collection will be made.
The new 5,000/320 Uralmash machine, two truck cranes with a capacity of 25 and 50 tons, a bulldozer, a crew change bus and other equipment were purchased to implement the drilling project of the Chamben 1 stratigraphic well.
