The annual World Oil Awards spotlights innovations in the upstream energy industry. Now in its 12th year, 2013 awards theme was "A World of Innovative Achievements." Schlumberger technologies were recognized as best in class in four categories for this year’s awards.

Completion Technology

The KickStart pressure-activated rupture disk valve eliminates coiled tubing or tubing-conveyed perforating in the first stage of plug-and-perf operations, offering a more effective and efficient method to start the fracturing process. Although it can be used to complete any well that has cemented casing, it is specially designed for multistage stimulation of horizontal and highly deviated wells.

Production Technology

RodPROP high-aspect-ratio proppant, a revolutionary new proppant technology, is made of high-strength material. RodPROP proppant provides up to three times higher fracture conductivity than conventional, commercially available spherical proppants, improving well performance.

Visualization and Collaboration

The Petrel E&P software platform brings disciplines together with best-in-class applied science in an unparalleled productivity environment. This shared earth approach enables companies to standardize workflows from exploration to production – and make more informed decisions with a clear understanding of both opportunities and risks.

Well Intervention

The compact CoilScan real-time CT pipe inspection system uses magnetic flux leakage (MFL) sensors, eddy current probes, and depth encoders to provide early detection of pipe defects such as corrosion, pitting, or excess internal metal. Because the CoilScan system monitors the coiled tubing in real time, it allows to make changes to the operating envelope during the job.
