Unique APG storage facilities under construction at Gazprom Neft’s Messoyakha field

Messoyakhaneftegaz, a Gazprom Neft—Rosneft joint venture, has secured a licence to built and operate an associated petroleum gas (APG) storage facility at the Zapadno-Messoyakhskoye field (in the Gydan Peninsula in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug). This storage facility will allow the asset to meet its target for utilising APG produced in developing the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye oil and gas condensate field. The project is expected to be implemented in 2020.

The decision to inject APG from one oil-bearing field into gas strata at a neighbouring block is unique within the oil and gas industry, and will contribute to effective natural-resources management in the Arctic. Construction of a 1.5 cubic meter-per year-capacity gas compressor station is now ongoing as part of project development at the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field, as well as the installation and laying of the first kilometres of a gas pipeline Two well clusters will be built at the Zapadno-Messoyakhskoye field in 2019–2020, with directional wells to inject APG into a 92,000 m2 gas deposit with average effective gas-saturation of 17.5 metres. The construction of gas processing and transportation facilities is expected to involve basic equipment of exclusively domestic production.

This requires the Messoyakha team to synchronise complex processes, ensure strict adherence to the schedule for delivering equipment and resources to the Arctic region, and ensure works are completed safely. The license for the construction and operation of the underground storage and gas infrastructure facilities will allow the oil production business to implement a unique project with considerable significance for the ecology of the Arctic mainland.”
