Varel International Introduces Katana Series Steel Body Bits
-
Higher blade stand offs and greater open face volume for increased evacuation of cuttings in high ROP applications;
-
Patents pending hydraulic optimization features to flush cuttings from the bit face;
-
Upwardly angled troughs in the gauge pads to further lift cuttings and to better cool the pads;
-
Streamlined cutter pocket design increases effectiveness of tungsten carbide hardfacing for better cooling and cleaning around each cutter.
Varel PDC product manager Cary Maurstad describes the line as a definitive enhancement for the company’s fixed cutter, polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) product line.
“The Katana series moves Varel steel body PDC bit technology to a higher level,” Maurstad said. “We’ve taken lessons learned from our traditional steel body product line and built upon that – creating a really exciting product. We’ve stepped it up by combining the complete package of Varel technology.”
Katana bits are also available in “shankless” configurations for minimum bit length, made possible by an innovative bit breaker system.
