Coiled Tube is able to transmit highly-viscous plugging fluid and magnetic substances for water shutoff in oil wells

01.09.2011

Over the recent 20 years the application of coiled tubing technologies has expanded from simple sand and clay plug removal to sidetracking in existing wells and drilling in complicated conditions. However, the majority of works performed with coiled tubing is removal of sand and clay plugs and well completion after hydraulic fracturing. Small amount of works with the use of coiled tube is accounted for by water shutoff and squeeze jobs installation of cement bridges to cut off the watered-out part of the producing formation.

Usage of coiled tubing technologies in the sphere of water shutoff is restricted due to small variety of plugging and sealing materials; application of such materials is associated with higher resistance when they are injected through small-diameter tubes.
